FLIPPING RIDICULOUS!

I hadn't planned to blog today. It seems Thursdays are my lightest reader days and when life is busy I don't wanna stress. However, what happened yesterday cannot go unnotice.

If you've been reading here for a few weeks to a few years you get my personality. You understand I'm a glass half full kind of girl and I 99% of the time look for the silver lining and find the joy in life. I rarely come here to complain or vent because life happens and no one wants to read a blog by a constant complaining Carrie.

Bad traffic and unpreparedness brings out the complainer in me and I can't hold my tongue. I live in the Nornthern VA area, right outside DC and there is a "huge" blizzard headed our way this weekend. Everyone has been talking about it all week and people are freaking out and planning for an apocalypse at the stores [for the loooooooooooove] so you'd THINK the area would be prepared for one measly inch of snow.

OHHHHHHHHH NO! THIS was what our roads looked like last night after a dusting to an inch because VDOT and other transportation companies did not PREPARE the roads.
It took me 45 minutes to drive four miles from my gym to my apartment. I saw six accidents on roads and I barely drove above 15 miles an hour to keep my lil coupe from spinning out. I also had to park three blocks from my apartment because there was a bus stuck on one hill and a car spun out on another. It worked out for the best because I parked on a flat road and didn't get stuck.

What in the world, DC? I don't understand not being prepared. But don't worry, schools are out this morning so teachers everywhere are bragging rejoicing and I saw a few kids already playing in the snow. I had a 45 minute commute to work this morning, which is okay since I slept in an extra hour because I WAS NOT dealing with early morning drama on the roads. Sassy looked pretty in the snow though.

And I got to rock my new Sorels to work which is fun.
Hi SNOW!
Oh and for those asking, checkout my white hat. Please don't mind the lack of makeup, it was early.

So, yeah. That's my post today. Sorry if it's a downer and a rant, but that's where I am. Hopefully today will be easy peasy on the way home and I'll rock my 5pm class at the gym. Thankfully I've been allowed to work from home on Friday and Monday already so that will be nice this weekend. I hope YOUR Thursday is awesome! Stay warm and stay safe!

  1. I'm so sorry it was such a mess for you guys yesterday - I saw it on the news and it's just really not right when they knew what was coming! I hope today is easier for you! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. I live in NoVa too, and the roads were crazy bad yesterday! I cannot believe that they didn't do ANY sort of treatment. I can see a relatively major road from my apartment window, and I kept looking outside because it was such a train wreck. Stay safe this weekend. I think we are going to get quite a bit of weather.

  3. Oh my gosh, I saw a few screenshots of Google maps on my DC friends' Facebook pages last night - what a mess!! I cannot believe that they didn't treat the roads. Good luck with all the impending wet weather this weekend.

  4. looks sooooo cold.
I heard about DC just a minute ago on the radio! hahah
Here in California- our weathermen get bored and have to talk about other areas of the country hahaha.
    Stay safe!!

  5. how annoying!! I never understand how they aren't prepared / don't know how to handle snow. It's not like it's the first time it happened!

  7. Ooooh man! The traffic in that area is usually horrendous to begin with, but I can't imagine with some snow. I'm sorry they were so unprepared, but hopefully that'll help for future storms. Sending big *hugs* and I'm glad you were safe! Yay for your new boots <3

  8. I couldn't believe it when I saw the news last night about how bad the traffic was with that amount of snow! Hopefully they prepare more for what's coming! We're predicted to get 5-10" of snow tomorrow and I hope that's true. Snow isn't overly common here anymore so I want a little to play in! Glad you get to work from home tomorrow and Monday :)

  9. Wait...did it end up snowing more than 1 inch?? THat is insane.

  10. That sounds like something that would happen in the south, not up north where it snows every single year. I'm sorry that traffic was so bad!

  11. Atlanta is the same way - maybe worse. When a flurry hits the ground, the town shuts down. It's crazy!!! Very glad you get to work from home tomorrow and won't have to deal with the craziness. And hoping your commute tonight isn't too terrible!!!

  12. Apparently the SAME thing happened in TN. My friend lives in Knoxville and she said that the state was completely unprepared and roads were awful and there were accidents every where. So crazy how states are so unprepared when they know it's coming! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  14. Yep. Snow/traffic is why I just cannot enjoy winter- no matter how much I try. My commute yesterday morning took about an hour and a half which I didn't love, but I tried to just be glad I made it there with no accidents. They were EVERYWHERE =\ I feel your pain girl.

  15. The same thing happened here in Pittsburgh only it was only 1/2 inch! Makes me crazy too - LOL!

  16. Stupid driving is universal it seems.

We had 2 inches of snow & it made my commute nearly 2 hours yesterday... I was in full blown panic attack by the time I got to work.

  17. Yep. I can relate! Took me two hours to get to work yesterday when it's normally only 30! Ugh! So hard to enjoy winter with all the traffic it brings ;)

  18. It's the snowpocalyse effect. I don't know why people always seemed so surprised by snow... It happens on the regs. LOL. Stay safe from the crazies girlie!

  20. I'm so sorry to hear about all of the bad weather and traffic. I lived in Arlington when I was younger and was there for the great blizzard and that was awful. My mom was prepared since she came from MN but it was a bad time for all at that time.

At least you got to wear your new shoes like you wanted :) But I really hope everything clears out for you

  21. I can't even imagine what it's like with all of the snow and ice that y'all get up there! In Texas if there's even a little bit of ice, our roads just like that because people literally have no idea how to drive in the first place and it just compounds everything with the ice. Hooray for working from on Friday and getting to wear your fun winter clothes!

  22. Oh girl, if there's one thing that brings out the complainer in me, it's traffic!! Nothing makes me madder than some stand-still traffic or someone driving like an idiot. Lol. Glad you made it home safely!

  23. That is the WORST! In Alabama people FREAK out so bad because we literally usually have no snow. It was so bad two years ago that we maybe had 2 or so inches of snow and people got stuck on the interstate overnight. Ridiculous! Hope your week is looking up!

  24. Oh my gosh, that sounds like a disaster! I hope the blizzard doesn't turn out to be anything too crazy but luckily you get to work from home. Just a tad bit jealous about that! lol

  25. oh i remember the stupid people on the roads during snow - another reason i moved! it's just too crazy and unnecessary. ugh. i hope your day gets better! and i must say loving the hat and boots :)

  26. Ugh, I feel your pain, this happens every time it rains here in Southern California...so annoying!

    ReplyDelete
  27. hahah I only laugh because I'm embarrassed to say this would be everyone in AZ if it snowed an inch!! When it rains here people go nuts. I'm glad you were safe driving in the "insane" snow storm ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ugh I'm sorry you had to deal with that. People are a disaster here!! It snows every damn year yet people freak out and act like it's the first time they've ever seen snow! I live in between DC and Baltimore and a neighbor told me there were 20 cars that slid into a ditch off the highway last night on the commute home, apparently DC, MD, and VA just did not salt or do anything to prepare for it so the roads were slippery. How are your grocery stores? People are going insane here! All I care about is getting some wine and snow boots so my kids can play outside lol

  29. Awww... sorry to hear about the snow and the trouble the little bit you got caused. That sounds 100% like Arkansas - when we get 1 inch the entire freaking state shuts down! LOL Love the new boots - too cute and the hat is adorable! Hope today was a better day and congrats on a nice 4 day "weekend". :)

  30. oh my god. wow. i'm in charlotte and i have no doubt we would be the same way. traffic makes me so MAD too - more than the normal person. i'm right there with you.

  31. I've been hearing about the snowpocalypse that DC is going to get & totally feel ya! We got a few inches of snow early Tuesday morning & the city did not seem to prepare for it. At all. Even though they had been predicting it for a few days, nothing was plowed & driving was absolutely horrendous! Hopefully it doesn't end up getting AS bad as they say though... :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would be venting right along with you. When I lived in DE people would seriously stock up for every snowstorm. It was maddening!

    ReplyDelete
  33. ughhhh that would suck. not gonna lie, i hate the snow and driving in it, but *most* of the time, KY handles it pretty well. most of the time ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't get this either. Like, you KNOW it's going to be bad, what is the point of not planning accordingly? Sorry you had to deal with that, hope you are nice and cozy at home today! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. omg it was seriously ridiculous. cannot believe that. too much hype on this blizzard..ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't get the lack of being prepared either. EVERYONE knew this was coming DAYS in advance. Get your shit together, lol
