Confessions of an Over Packer

Summer's here and that means trips, trips, trips.

Which means, packing, packing, packing.

And that means.......it's time for CONFESSIONS of an OVER-PACKER.

I've said it a bazillion times before, but I'll say it again...
I'm a HORRIBLE PACKER!

I over-pack like crazy, because I never want to be left
wanting something while I'm on a trip.

Don't believe me?!

Check it...

Exhibit A: VEGAS 2011- 3 days, 4 nights

SHOES: 10 pairs for 4 Days!!!
It was only my second trip to Vegas and I really wanted to do it up after my first trip. I was there for kickball tournament so the cleats, flips and gymmers don't really count right?!?! But yeah, I ended up packing two pairs of shoes in Le Husband's [Le Beau at the time] suitcase. I think I brought three dresses, two skirts, two swimmy suits and a pair of booty shorts.

I posted a picture on Facebook and everyone gave me the Heather Dubrow!

Exhibit B: Cancun 2012 - Five days
In 2012, Le Husband [Le Beau at the time] kicked some major arse at his job and qualified for an all expenses paid trip to Cancun with other people in his company. And, he was allowed to bring his S/O for free too....HOLLLA! I was super stoked for a free trip with my man, but we had only been dating for six months and everyone else going were older married couples, with kids. So I was a bit nervous about looking like 1] Flavor of the month and 2] A college kid. We only had one excursion so all I really needed to pack was three swim suits, a cover up and an outfit for dinner each night. Yeah....you don't even wanna know how many outfits I packed.

Exhibit C: Vegas 2012 - 3 days, 4 nights
While I was a bit more organized for this trip, I still was a bit of a mess. As you can see there was A LOT of pink packed and I totally brought four extra outfits. I think most of that had to do with the fact that Vegas is the one place I thought I could still wear my sloooty girl clothes. But, when I was there, I found I just wanted to wear a cute dress or skirt. I will say that this trip I was much better with shoes. I only packed six pairs.

**//**//**//**

So there you have it friends, my over packing confessions. I know a list helps, but I'm always the girl that thinks "hmmmm, but I might need this...just maybe...I think". At least I'll ALWAYS BE PREPARED!

Are you an over-packer or an awesome packer? Any tips you want to share?

linking up with KATHY!

  1. I tend to overpack for trips that are longer than 4 days...but if its a weekend trip...I'm so on point haha!! I make a list and then plan each outfit...but a girl always need choices!

  2. My last trip to DC was for 3 nights and when I said something about bringing the small suitcase my Roomie was like, "You're only gonna be gone for 3 nights and you're not going to be wearing clothes 50% of the time. WHYY do you need a suitcase?" Me, "I MUST BRING ALL THE THINGS!!!!"

  3. OMG this is hilarious. I am not an overpacker. In fact, I underpack on purpose. On my honeymoon with M, we took on large suitcase between the two of us for 7 days and my small carryon/poolbag. With J for S. Carolina, on small rollarbpoard for the two of us for 3 days. I just deal with it.

  6. LMAO!! I use to overpack but I try really hard not to. I prefer to have extra room in my suitcase for all the goodies I get while on vaca. LOL.

    Best, Mree

  7. Oh, I totally overpacked on my 1st Vegas trip. I needed shoe options, you know? But all those shoes are HEAVY, so I'm going to cut it in half for an upcoming trip.

  8. I use to be a total over packer, now, I am probably borderline under packer... mostly because I want to make sure I have room for any purchases (and, let's be real, less laundry when I get home!)

  9. Psshhh! You can never have enough clothes on vacation! Well, you can but, hey! Better to have options than no options at all!!

  10. Hahahha this is hilarious. I'm totally the same way. The hubs and I go on a vacation every summer to a cabin resort and he always gives me a blank stare like, "ummm are we staying there for a month?" A girl needs options!!

  13. I have a tendency to over-pack too, but mainly because you never know if you are going to need something! I hate being unprepared.

  15. In all fairness, if you leave something out, you'll most likely need it. Better safe than sorry ;)

  16. I'm an over-packer but I HAVE gotten better over the years, lol! Simply because I never want to pay to check a bag ;) I try to realistically lay out what I'm going to wear each day and thennnnn only add a couple extras 'in-case'

  17. i am the same way. i also love this jenna marbles video. when she talks about the tampies i laugh every time

  18. The only reason I'm not an overpacker is because I TRY to not check my bag whenever possible. Otherwise, I'll pack my whole life!

  19. Haha this is sooo me, too! For our 10 day honeymoon last year, I easily brought along enough clothes for a month! I've been getting better on shorter trips because I don't want to pay to check a bag so I HAVE to pack lighter.. but it's still a challenge!

  20. I'm in the throes of over packing stress anxiety as we speak. My couch has been covered in clothes since I started Sunday and it's time to wrap it up. I like to start early to alleviate stress...it usually doesn't work!!

  21. I am there with you...just maybe not so extreme haha. But you never know what may happen. So you must be prepared for anything.

  22. I used to be a horrible overpacker but now I've gotten better...I try to pack in the same color palette so I can get away with only 2-3 pairs of shoes. I tend to end up with 1-2 outfits I don't wear, but never need anything!

  23. You see, the key to packing light is neutral colors and multi-function. That won't work for you because there is no such thing as neutral in your vocabulary, so you should do color themes. Pick one color, and have every outfit/shoe choice revolve around it. I plan a day outfit/night outfit, and interchange the pieces throughout the trip. I find the less I bring, the easier it is to get dressed. Plus, if you do end up needing something, it's an excuse to go SHOPPING, and you have room in your bag to pack said shopping spree.
