I know the title sounds a lil bit conceited, but we chicks tend to tear ourselves down instead of recognizing the great things about ourselves. I saw this post earlier in the year and thought, hey, let's see if I can find things I like about myself.
{1} My eyes.
They are big. They are a beautiful color, which I get complimented on all the time. I love getting my makeup done because the artist always remarks on my eyes. They are one thing I've always loved about my body.
{2} I'm optimistic.
Being positive is NEVER something I've had to work on. My personality is a positive one and I'm very good at finding the silver lining in crappy situations. Do I have bad days and complain? YES, especially when a situation drives me nuts. But, I don't let the bad ruin my day or stress me out [too much]. I acknowledge the struggle, but look forward and continue on my way with joy. My glass is always half full with more margarita or sangria on it's way.
{3} How much I care.
My heart is on my sleeve, y'all. I read a sad blog post and I'm immediately sending an email of encouragement to the writer. Someone posts about a pregnancy and I'm truly THRILLED to hear about another miracle in the world. I try to help my friends when they struggle and celebrate with them in the good. I will tear up during a commercial and Lord help me if there is a military something on TV. That's just tear city, y'all. I feel things deeply and try to help anyone I can have a better day.
{4} My ability to cheer my family/friends up when they are sad.
No one likes to see their friends sad. I take it really personal when friends are upset and really try to turn their frown upside down. Sometimes that's just a text or email. Sometimes it's a card in the mail or a package. And sometimes it's taking the time to drive [or fly] out to them for a real hug.
{5} I can laugh at myself.
Life can be funny and I make lots of mistakes. Instead of freaking out I tend to just laugh it off. Sometimes I purposely do dumb things to make myself and others laugh. I may get embarrassed, but it's better to laugh than to cry. I'm okay with laugh lines, they mean life has been happy.
{6} My faith.
I've had strong faith since I was young. I thank my parents and Sunday school for that strength. That doesn't mean that I don't question or lash out when things get hard or scary. It just means I don't worry needlessly about how things will turn out. I wish I had a crystal ball, that told me the path of my life, but I don't, so I trust that things will be good. I have faith that there is a plan, even if it isn't my plan. I believe in the GOOD!
{7} My athleticism.
My body isn't the fittest. It isn't the most active. Heck, I'm not even as strong as I want. However, I am athletic and can pick up most games, quickly. I won't be the best or have the best technique, but for the most part, I'm coordinated enough to compete. Being asked if I'm a "runner, gymnast, or soccer player" never gets old and I'm thankful to be athletically blesses. Now I just need to work on my grace in dance ;)!
{8} How I empathize/sympathize with my friends.
We walk through life at different times, so we might not be experience in the same situations. But, that doesn't mean I can't feel for you. I've never been pregnant, so while I can't sympathize with my friends when their body is changing or when things get tough as a mom, I can empathize and be there to listen. We've all had bad break-ups and even though I'm happily married now, I can totally relate to a bad date story.
{9} My confidence.
Though I may not be the hottest girl, the best athlete, or the smartest gal in the room, but I know my worth. I don't need someone to tell me I'm the best, even if it's nice to hear. I know I was raised right, have good manners, treat people right and that my heart is in the right place. If someone doesn't like me, that's their problem, not mine.
{10} I know what's important in life.
Quick summation, they aren't things. Do I like nice things? Heck yes! But I know material things aren't what matter. I know that quality trumps quantity in friendships and life is too short to deal with drama that doesn't make me better. I also know that life isn't always roses and sunshine, but even in the valleys I know 'this too, shall pass'. Family and friends make life worthwhile.
What are some things you love about yourself?

Actually! The first think I thought when I saw your title was "this is the BEST idea!" The thought of making my own list kind of scares me... but I think I'm gonna do it! Because you're right! We need to love ourselves WAY more than we tear ourselves down!
ReplyDeleteI was just nodding my head to each of these... I haven't even met you in real life but all of this totally shines through your blog! You really are the happiest, sweetest, most encouraging friend! And girl, you are beautiful, strong & athletic, and a daughter of God. You are blessed and I love how much you recognize it!

ReplyDeleteI love this post! I think it's important to remind ourselves why we are awesome and that everyone should do it. I think that confidence, a positive outlook and being able to laugh at yourself are so important!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful post. We all need to reflect on what makes us..us. You are such a happy, loving person and it's definitely conveyed here in your blog. Your Christmas card is amazing..you and your hubby have had so many fun adventures this year.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this post!
ReplyDeleteThis is a post we ALL need to do every once in a while :)
ReplyDeletePositivity goes a long way! :) I love how happy you are.

ReplyDeletelove this post girly! your eyes are super pretty, and you're definitely one of the most optimistic people i've ever met! and confidence is something everyone needs - go you for getting it down!
ReplyDeleteBeing optimistic is such a great trait to have and sometimes so difficult to achieve. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome you did this post. Most people struggle with finding good qualities about themselves. I love you have incredible things you find. I know others could add to that list FOR you :)
ReplyDeleteOh man, I LOVE that you did this! This is so encouraging to everyone who reads this. We all need to list out things we love about ourselves. Such a good idea!
ReplyDeleteYeah!!!!! You know how I feel about spreading that positive vibe! Such a fabulous post girl!
ReplyDeleteYour optimism is totally apparent and such an inspiration! Your eyes are pretty gorge too though ;) Love the Christmas card!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! We beat up ourselves waaaay too often. This was refreshing!
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL post! I struggle sometimes to say positive things about myself, but I know they're there! Just need to dig 'em out ;) I think you seem like such a caring, optimistic individual- it shines through on your blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love that you shared things you like about yourself instead of things you don't like. We all need to work on building ourselves and each other up instead of tearing us down. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteAll great qualities to have! I wish I was more atheletic so you're lucky in that department!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful post, we are always so quick to point out our flaws to ourselves and others, how much better to focus on good things!
ReplyDeleteYou sound like an upbeat person that can probably change the mood of a room the second you walk in. We would get along well! Lol, so many people focus on the bad in life, but that's no fun. I try to be the good I want to see in myself and in others.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post, Pinky, and not arrogant at all!!! I agree, way too often we focus on what we do NOT like about ourselves rather than the things we love about us! I had people comment on my eyes a lot, too. I have blue eyes that change shades a lot. When I first got pregnant with Lily, I was so happy, they turned a very dark turquoise color :-)
ReplyDeleteHave the very best holiday!!
This is SUCH a great post! And not conceited at all - us women tend to not give ourselves enough credit so it's so nice to see something like this! I can tell that you are the most optimistic person and that's something I admire :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this post! Its important to have a list of what we love about ourselves, so on days we don't have the best self-esteem, we can have a few reminders! Your positivity is something that shines through your blog, and it's one of the many reasons why I love reading it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! I like my eyes too :D

I really enjoy this post! :) I think it's so important to look at the positives of who we are, instead of the negatives!
ReplyDeleteFantastic post! I agree that women tend to tear themselves down. My first thoughts when I saw this was "I doubt I could come up with ten things". Well, that's not very helpful or positive, is it?! I enjoyed this immensely.
ReplyDeleteWhat an uplifting post! We could all use a little more "me" love since a lot of times negativity tends to overshadow the positive stuff. And I love your Christmas card and that you incorporated a bunch of pictures! I hate narrowing down to just one or two, so I saw the more pictures the better!

Being able to laugh at yourself is so HUGE. I've noticed that people who aren't able to tend to be Debbie downers and live drama filled lives. NO THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteYour right about us women being harder on ourselves instead of looking at all the positives! You've got some great qualities girl! And I just love your Christmas cards! We went to Alaska last year! Isn't it amazing!?
