Did You Hear the Song About the Tortilla? {Recipe Files}

"Actually, it was more of a wrap"!!!! Heeheehee! The perfect joke for today!

Morning, ladies. I hope you are doing well and aren't shaking your head at me after my attempt at humor. We are one day closer to Friday, so this pink girl is pretty happy and hopefully y'all are too. After I posted pictures of our homemade tortillas a few weeks ago, I received quite a few comments requesting the recipe so I thought I share it today for the linkup.

I have to give Le Husband full credit on this idea. He was the one that wanted to make them and who looked through countless recipes before he settled on one that fit the macro build we are both on now. We adapted the recipe from *this pin* and added/reduced here and there. Homemade tortillas taste so much better than store bought and really aren't as hard as you think. Give em a try, okay?

Ingredients aka what you need
2 cups all purpose [normal recipe calls for 3 Cups, but we exchanged one cup for whole wheat flour]
1 cup whole wheat [if you use 3 cups all purpose flour, omit  this cup]
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1 cup hot water
4 table spoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Step 1: Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Step 2: Add the wet ingredients and mix with a fork [if it looks too dry add another table spoon or more of water].

Step 3: Knead 10 -15 times to incorporate all ingredients.

Step 4: Let dough sit for at least 30 minutes, covered in saran wrap preferably.

We made this recipe the day before and put it wrapped in the fridge overnight. Le Husband now makes a big batch at the beginning of the week and then we freeze the recipe in two serving portions. It easily defrosts in the fridge the day you want to use it.

Step 5: After the dough has rested, cut into serving size pieces of dough and roll into a ball.

Step 6: Put a lil flour on your board and rolling pin, then roll out dough out into a tortillaesque shape.

Step 7: Eat up a flat top [we used a skillet] to 350-375 degrees [temperature matters so it will be tough to use a pan on top of the stove]. Cook on one side for 1 minute, then flip and cook on the other side for 1 minute.

Step 8: Remove from heat onto a plate [careful, will be hot].

Best Step: Fill with your favorite taco/burrito filling and enjoy.

Since we used wheat flour our tortillas have a darker color and aren't as fluffy as the Pinterest picture. Le Husband and I enjoy the whole wheat flavor, but it's totally up to you preference. I hope this shows how easy homemade tortillas can be and y'all enjoy making them as much as we do. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
