Confessions of a First Time Ballerina

And I use the term ballerina very loosely. If you stopped by here last week, you read that I started taking adult ballet classes and that I was super nervous about them. Turns out my nerves were extremely warranted because well...I am NOT a graceful ballerina.

Our instructor was great, she just was extremely no nonsense and moved the class at an extremely fast pace for beginners. I've spent this week studying some videos and practice for my class today, in hopes that I look less like a four year old. #yeahright

I thought it would be fun focus my confessions on my first ballet experience, because well, it was pretty ridiculous. As always, I'm linking up with the hilarious Kathy, for some amazing confessions.

I confess...

// Plies are hard... especially when you normally do squats.
[source]
// If I had a nickel for every time she said 'booty in' I wouldn't be at work today.
be careful when you google girls and squats....there be sooome BIIG bootys out there.

// I expected to feel somewhat graceful during the class. I mean I watch Dance Moms.
[source]
// Every time I looked in the mirror it was spas 101.
[source]
// I can't turn without falling. My instructor kept saying "smaller steps, smaller steps"

// I did the step into a fall...all class.
[source]

// I kept asking the teacher to repeat things because I didn't understand the language.
[source]
// Dressing like a dancer is fun and fabulous.

[source]
// Even though my first ballet class was an extremely humbling experience, I'm super stoked to go back again today. The instructor moves super quick, but I've been practicing at home, so hopefully I'll look a lil more fluid this week. Fingers crossed I don't fall, please!

Okay, so I have one more confession and I NEED YOUR HELP! I have a hair appointment today after work and I have no idea what I want to do, which is so unlike me. I've been growing my hair out for a year now and LOVE that it's long and healthy, but I've had the same ombre look for awhile. Do I keep it long through the holidays and then get a fresh look for 2015? Do I go back to brunette with some auburn highlights? Do I get bangs [even though Le Husband is not a fan]? Do I get small side bangs? Should I go super dark and fun?

Any suggestions and thoughts would be mega appreciated. But no, I will not shave my head, dye it black/bleach blonde or get a mohawk, so please keep that in mind with your suggestions ;)

THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!

  1. YOU are fun and fabulous! I am excited to see your hair - I wish you had snapchat for this! :) Keep the length, get it "healthy", make it darker and SASSY! No on bangs, worst hair mistake for athletes!

  2. I was waiting to hear how the ballet class went! So glad you're going back :)
Also, maybe keep the ombre look for this seas and put in a small side bang if your hubby doesn't like the full bang. I tried to make that sound ok but it still sounded wrong lol

  3. my daughter takes ballet and omg the kids are so adorable in their outfits! then in the next room, i hear the instructor YELLING and HOLLERING at the older students and goddamn, is that what legit ballet is like? that bitch is strict! but i guess it's like that with (competitive) ballet?

can't give you hair advice lady; mine is boring and will remain boring until i die :(

    thanks for linking up!

  6. Haha these are awesome! Yes, Plies are very hard! And I have definitely done the turn, stumble, fall thing!

I just got my haircut and got a sideswept bang. It looks really cute when I can get it to cooperate, but it doesn't like to cooperate a lot. Plus you have to use a headband to pull it back for workouts and stuff, so keep that in mind!

  7. hmm i think ombre is great for fall but maybe because you've had it for awhile, you should go darker? darker is always fun of the colder months! i am not a fan of bangs, more trouble than they are worth! haha but side bangs hells yeah.
and i am loving going through this ballet class experience with you, i always wanted to do it! i have tried doing plie squats but i dont think they are the same thing as actual plies lol

  8. The gif of the little girl dancing is just the best!! I'm so happy that you're going back and enjoying the experience!!

I think brunette with auburn highlights would be really pretty - but then again you'd look great with any new haircut!

  9. I'm sorry your instructor is going at a crazy pace-I hope it gets easier for you! I haven't danced in years, and your post takes me back. :) As far as hair, I'm not the best person to comment on that since my hair is boring. I cut off eight inches in the spring and have regretted it since. I prefer mine long.

  10. I vote solid dark brown or brown with auburn highlights...because that's what I always do. I like the side bangs idea. I just have layers right now.

  13. That is so cool you decided to try ballet!! Also, good for you for sticking with it even though it did not go so smoothly the first round :) I vote brunette with auburn highlights but keep it long (since you are loving it). Good luck on deciding!

  15. Go you for taking ballet classes - graceful, I am not! I cut bangs into my own hair last October and they are FINALLY long enough to get out of my eyes. Just a warning: make sure you can commit for a year ha. They're fun though for sure :)

  27. I love that you are taking an adult ballet class!!! When I was little, I wanted to be a ballerina but I never took a class. I cant imagine how big of an idiot I would look in class because I am so awkward! Ballet is such an awesome exercise for your entire body! How fun and awesome!

  28. I can't tell you how many times I say "inch movements" in class. Sometimes I just go and place my hands on swinging body parts......and then gently show what an inch movement is. The verbiage is so different right? I really want to find a ballet class now!!! I loved your pretty ballerina outfit!!
