Today I am sooooooooooooooo excited to co-host with Amanda and Lindsay for Wino Wednesday. As we all know, I'm a huge wine fan and have a hard time picking a favorite. Honestly, as long as it tastes good, I'm a happy camper. I can enjoy a $10 bottle of wine at the lake or camping and savor a $200 bottle of wine celebrating life with Le Husband. While I don't have a favorite, my go to wine as a hostess gift or a wine exchange is the Red Velvet wine, by Cupcake Vineyards.

Red is my usual preference when it comes to wine, unless it's a sweet moscato, but I don't like extremely smoky reds. I used to be a Merlot/Pinot Noir girl, but Le Husband is only a Cabernet Saviguon guy so that's what we drink together. Cab Savs are delicious, but sometimes I want just a teeny bit of sweetness and this Red Velvet blend is the perfect marriage of sweet and heavy. Oh, and did I mention it will only set you back about $14.99 at the most? Yeah, it's inexpensive and delicious, win-win! Most of the Cupcake wines are awesome, but nothing can really hold a candle to Red Velvet in my opinion.
I've had friends that were worried about it being too sweet for a red, but I'm happy to say I've converted them to Red Velvet, woohoo. I do suggest you NOT drink this with dinner because I don't really think it pairs well with meals. I enjoy it on it's own while making dinner, at a party or with my dessert.
Have you tried Cupcake wines? Are you a fan? Do you drink Red Velvet? What's your wine of choice?
I am not mature enough for red wines yet, lol. I just can't get into them. Hopefully that will change with time. Right now, I prefer a crisp, chilled glass of very dry Chardonnay. Yum. I've definitely heard good things about Cupcake wines so I'll have to give them a try. Maybe that Red Velvet would be a good option to ease me into red wine life :)
ReplyDeleteGo USA!!!
I'm not a huge red wine drinker but I do love the Cupcake wines! Maybe I'll have to try the Red Velvet one. I usually prefer red blends over straight reds any way!

ReplyDeleteCupcakes are among my list of great wines. Our local store has these on sale all the time. Red Velvet I agree, best on its own. Glad you are hosting this month Pinky!

ReplyDeleteCupcake wines have never failed me! I've never tried this one, I will have to :)
ReplyDeleteI've eyed this wine a few times but kind of steer clear of gimmicky wines and was worried this would be sweet. I'll have to give it a try, especially for that price!
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy! I've tried the Cupcake white but not the red. Happy to link up!

I don't know why, but I guess it's the name that always made me think this would be super-sweet (HATE Moscato, as well, lol). Must give this a try now, friend ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling much better! Cupcake vineyards do have some delicious wines! Good choice!
ReplyDeleteI was a never a red wine fan until Red Velvet existed. I remember buying it in LA and thinking it was the best thing ever. Seriously, such a great red!
