Blog Every Day in May [Day 22]

Day 22, Wednesday: Rant about something. Get up on your soapbox and tell us how you really feel. (a pet peeve, a current event, a controversial topic, something your husband or roommate or neighbor or boss does that really ticks you off)
I'm getting on my soap box today!

I hate how materialistic and LAZY my generation
and those following have become.

It is an atrocity to America
and all this country stands for.

Our society has become so
ME-CENTRIC
and our children are growing up
thinking they are entitled to whatever they want.

This drives me batty.

I hate how kids have iphones
tablets
personal computers
and Nintendo hand devices.

Kids don't know the value of REAL WORK,
they just expect things to be handed to them.

These entitled brats grow up into
entitled teens and adults
that don't want to work, they just
want to complain.

And ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh gurlllllll do they complain.

If they don't agree with something
Lawd you're gonna know it.

It's gonna be on Facebook, twitter
Instagram, the whole mess.

But get people as a group to
get behind something that matters and
takes actual work?!?!
FORGET ABOUT IT!

I am SO disappointed and embarrassed
to call myself a Generation Yer.

The Greatest Generation
has classified MY generation
as the ME GENERATION!

HOW HORRIBLE IS THAT?!?!

It honestly makes me sick.

Sometimes I sit and think and wonder,
what if something like WW2 happened now,
and men were called to join the army
and women were called to give up clothes
and material things they loved,
what would happen to our country?!?!

I 100% believe we would fail

I know there are good men and women in our country.

Men and women that work hard
and know the value of a dollar
and the value of America.

But the bad apples out weigh the good
in my opinion
and it makes me sad, sick and scared.

I'm scared for America
and I'm angry with my generation.

We need to look to the PAST
for our HEROES,
and stop thinking about ourselves!

  1. I feel ya on this...esp with the generations below us, too. I will say, I think it is more evident in the area that we live in, where everything is centered around your status, and what "stuff" you have. I don't think it's AS bad everywhere else in the country as it is here. But I do agree, some ish needs to change!

  3. OMG! Preach my friend. I'm so with you! And it's true... if WW2 happened... we'd be SCREWED!

  4. As far as kids having iPhones and tablets - This I do agree on. I don't like it, and I don't like seeing these kids inside when they should be playing. However - and I guess this argument really centers on what age group you are talking about because Generation Y is so broad - I have to disagree about the laziness of the generation. I believe that our generation is learning the value of hard work because of what the recession did. We can't rely on loans anymore, we have to work hard to make ends meet. But again, it really depends on what age group we're talking about.

  5. One of the best rants of the day. So well said and well observed. Even in South Africa where so many neighbours are going hungry and are homeless the kids are more concerned about a phone than shoes.

  6. It's the same in England too. So many people see government handouts and benefits as the way to make money; not actually going out and working for it. It makes me angry when I see people who don't work being able to buy things that I can't afford even though I do work. And as they get more benefits, they'll never go to work!

  7. Older generations also referred to Generation X as the me generation and they've actually matured into some pretty decent leaders/movers and shakers. I'm hoping our generation outgrows their selfish stage sooner rather than later to make more of a difference in the world.

  9. The most you can do is manage yourself and raise children who learn these values. The culture is completely materialistic and egocentric as a whole with traces of responsible people smudge throughout. Sadly it may take something as drastic as an economic collapse or Great Depression to change culture as a whole. People start thinking different when most jobs are scarce or fuel and food is rationed. Back during older generations they had freedom gardens to support the war effort and to provide food for their families. They saved and saved for future rainy days and to put their kids in school. Don't get me wrong, I don't desire worse economic times but I won't rely on others to pay my way either.

  10. If we want it to change we have to start with ourselves and our kids! I refuse to get my kids iphones or ipads and if they are the only ones at their school doing without then so be it! But I can tell you I am probably one of the only ones. Even the really, really poor kids have a smartphone

  11. I am so with you on this, girl! I teach middle school and the entitlement is sickening. The cell phones, the gadgets, the fact that they roll their eyes when I give a homework assignment. I get that homework sucks but I don't ever recall rolling my eyes at a teacher for anything but never mind a daily expectation! It's like I'm interfering with their lives when I ask them to do anything. Gross.
