A Wasted Last Weekend Before Christmas

Yup, wasted. Complete fail whale over here. This weekend was supposed to be the final hustle and bustle of the season. Christmas cookie baking with the family, hiking in the crisp weather, getting outfits ready for an upcoming trip and just all around Christmas cheer.

But, it wasn't. It was a wasted weekend of nothing. Because of a $*@%ing cold. I cannot remember the last time I had a cold longer than two days. Usually I get the one day of feeling like dog poop followed by MAYBE three days of a cough or the sniffles, that's it. This stupid cold has had me laid up since last Wednesday. I'm talking bed by 8pm, waking up every few hours at night to catch my runny nose, a morning full of sneezes, sniffles and pressure, followed by a full day of feeling like poop. I went to the doctor on Friday and she told me "Sorry, it's a virus, you're just gonna have to wait this sucker out."

Okay, I thought. It's been three days, I should be fine tomorrow.

NOPE! Nayno! SIKE!

The weekend of fun Christmas plans turned into the weekend of passing out at 8pm on Friday night.
The weekend of Le Husband sleeping on the couch because I'm trying to keep him from getting sick. Of washing my hands a gobzillion and one times after I sneeze and blow my nose a gobzillion times.

The weekend where I laid around all Saturday feeling awful physically and then mentally because I kept thinking about everything I was missing. Where cheesy hallmark movies didn't even help and neither did an epsom salt bath.

The weekend of dragging myself to church and then avoiding everyone so I don't get them sick. Of feeling pretty grinchish.

The weekend where the sissys saved the day with an impromptu baking session, that I very lightly participated in but still enjoyed. Because I actually ate a cookie. And decorated a few while they did the rest.
Can you guess which sister made which cookie?
The weekend where I sat on my kitchen floor and thew a temper tantrum because I had enough and Le Husband looked at me like I was a looney toon. #lifegoals #justkidding #marriage.

And then it became the weekend I realized I need to get over it. Because I will get better. I'm fortunate that I'm not sick in a hospital or taking care of a sick child. I'm not serving on the front lines protecting people from the bad guys. I'm not in prison or trapped in a bad situation. I'm not stuck in another country unable to visit my family or call home. I have a home and I have food and warmth and medicine and even though my body is being a POS I still will have Christmas with my family come Friday.

So, while the weekend was pretty much a waste of Christmas things, the cheer is still here. I hope your weekend was better than mine and I hope if it wasn't the light at the end of the tunnel shows it's face soon. Sorry this was such a downer, but I just had to be real and share my thoughts. Hugs and love to all! < 3

  5. Being sick is definitely the worst, especially when you're blowing your nose and washing your hands all of the time! This time of the year is also the worst to be sick, but it's great that you still got to help your sisters out with baking cookies and decorating them! Hopefully you kick this thing good and can really enjoy Christmas!

I had a cold two weeks ago, got over it in 2-3 days, and then it CAME BACK this past week. Ugh, the worst.

  9. Oh girlfriend, I 100% feel you. We had a great Friday of Christmas cookie baking and a nice dinner date, and then I woke up early Saturday morning with the stomach flu and it was just awful. I had to miss our family Christmas party Saturday and plans with friends on Sunday (still bitter about it lol). Hope you're feeling SO much better soon - at least we got this out of the way before Christmas, right?!?

  12. Hope you feel better soon. I was sick last Christmas and so bummed that I couldn't celebrate with my family. It gives you a sense of perspective fast, doesn't it? Hopefully you and Jason will both be healthy for Christmas. Also those cookies are too funny!

  14. Girl, I feel your pain! I was stuck home all last week with a stomach bug going through each of my kids. I am so behind on Christmas gifts. I definitely threw a few pity parties myself. Hope you feel better soon!

  15. Hope you feel better! Being sick is no fun, I've been dealing with a cold for over a week and it sucks. It's so easy to get in a negative mindset but good job for putting everything in perspective and realizing it's not the end of the world and could be so much worse!

  22. Awww... sorry to hear you had a rotten weekend. Hope you're finally on the mend, however, as Christmas is not the time to be sick for sure. My hubby woke up this morning feeling like you did last weekend and I'm praying he heals fast as we have a very long drive starting Christmas Eve at noon so I need him to be well and stat! *sigh*

  25. Finally catching up on reading my fav blogs. By the time you read this I hope this finds you feeling better. A cold can be miserable especially when we have our agendas. I love how you remembered though, "it could be worse." With all your examples of people less fortunate. Merry Christmas Pinky.
