Miranda Kerr for the Win

Not only is she gorgeous, she's super smart and I love her outlook on life. I saw THIS post on In the Gloss and immediately book marked it to share with y'all. Today, I'm sharing her points, with my thoughts. But check out the article, for her explanations, because she's incredibly articulate and I found myself nodding along while reading.

 Seven Rules for Adulthood.

1. PLAN EVERY LITTLE THING - Okay, I have to say, I don't plan every little thing, but when certain things need to get done, the list gets written and we check things off. I've found if I don't plan dinners with friends and write them down they never happen. I often will write down my gym dates in my planner, just to ensure I KNOW I have them on the schedule. I'm more of a spontaneous person, but completely see the importance of planning and preparation.

2. SAY ‘THANK YOU’ - Whether it's for a gift or for the opportunity to wake up, say thank you. In the age of technology, a simple thank you note just isn't on people's radar anymore and that's sad. It's easy to do and the polite thing to do. But, I've also witnessed people not acknowledge the kindess of others to their face. Say thank you for the door that was held open for you or for the menu place on the table. I personally believe in God and am so thankful and grateful for each and everyday. I do need to start to take moments in the morning to be grateful for the new, blank slate. So many people never wake up, and we need to be grateful that we did.

3. EMBRACE FORGIVENESS - This is something I'm still working on, but totally agree with the sentiment. Until you truly forgive, you're just harboring ill thoughts and letting bad karma fester in your own head and heart. Once forgiveness happens, bad feelings can be swept away and life can proceed as it should. People that wrong me or my friends really tick me off, but I need to learn to just forgive the action and let it go. Forgiveness brings peace, and we could use a lil more peace in our lives right?

4. HEALTH IS WEALTH  - It's true "You only live once", but that doesn't mean you should eat all the food or burn the candle at both ends. I'm a firm believer in enjoying food, especially really good food, but I also believe in moderation to keep my body healthy. I definitely need to get better about prepping for busy days, because a fast food meal isn't going to make me feel any better. Oh and also, WATER, WATER, WATER.

5. …BUT SET BUDGETS - While I'm a big fan of "You can't take it with you" when it comes to money, I also am a save for a rainy day kind of gal. I don't budget, but I do tell myself I can only spend X on some things, each month. I will make allowances for birthdays and celebrations, but I really do try and keep myself in check. It's crazy how much money people waste at Target and Walmart, just because it's there. Enjoy life, but remember, you still need to be able to enjoy life tomorrow.

6. CHOOSE YOUR EMOTIONS - You can be the worrier, fearful of any and everything or you can be the optimist, expecting the best and hopeful for all things good. Yes, sometimes life sucks and back things happen, but you can choose to be the bug or the windshield. It's incredible how much difference a positive and grateful attitude can make on your day. Similar to what Miranda said, you can be upset about the rain or grateful for the rainbow that's coming afterwards.

7. BE A KID - We waste so much of our childhood trying to act grown up, when we should have been embracing the fun and freedom of being a kid. Children are so optimistic, hopeful and excitable and honestly, those are three things I strive to incorporate in my life. Yes, there are serious issues that we face as grown ups, but we can still dance in the kitchen, run barefoot in the grass and laugh till we cry.

What do you think of her advice? Is it spot on? Is it ridiculous?

Am I ridiculous?!!? WAIT, don't answer that!

WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE...

  1. I don't let life get in my way and I will always be a kid at heart. I also think saying "thank you" is paramount. I do it often and have taught my children to as well.
